New Years Day 2009

The morning was spent being pretty lazy for the most part. Running and playing with the kids were the main things at for the moms. The guys took on the project of finishing their parent's garage. They put up sheet rock and built shelves for storage. Of course, they didn't completely sacrifice traditional New Year's sports - they had Greg's computer outside so they could watch the bowl games. The impressive thing to me is that these guys for the most part are not really handy, at least that is not how they were raised. McKay has learned how to do a lot as we have fixed up our house and I know many of his brothers have too, but a few of them it seemed almost humorous to see holding drill. It was a great gesture though and turned out really nice - his mom was so excited about it.
Later, we all went to the zoo - the was the most amazing trip to the zoo that I have ever had!! I don't know if they gave something to all the animals in celebration of New Years or what, but all the animals were VERY active! The bear was climbing around on the rocks. The Tigers were playing tag - we stayed and watched them chase each other for a long time - we were all just enthralled, especially the kids. The giraffes kept coming up really close to the kids. The elephant was actually playing with the ball - I didn't know they ever actually just did that, they always seemed to be more for decoration. It seriously was so much fun!! The worst part was that we got there so late, we didn't have much time before they closed. They started taking all the animals inside for the night - we could still hear them being active, we just couldn't see them! I wish going to the zoo was always like that.
